Medoc wines have a long history.
In 1152, Aquitaine fell to the advance of England and Richard the lion heart, King of England in the 12th century, adopted Bordeaux wines as a table wine.
Chateau Margaux can trace its origins to the 12th century, its history and fame stem equally from the intrinsic genius of the place as from the contributions made by the various people who have served it for five centuries. Through the generations and the centuries, the knowledge of the people and the outstanding terroir has progressively transcended Chateau Margaux into a symbol of excellence.
In 1855 Chateau Margaux was classified “Premier grand cru classe” and only Chateau Margaux was marked twenty out of twenty. This classification, which maintains its validity today, and helps confirm the reputation for outstanding quality.
Situated in the Medoc region, in the left bank of Bordeaux, the fabulous terroir of chateau Margaux, surrounded by water, benefits from a microclimate. The famous gravel soil allows cabernet sauvignon to ripen perfectly and deliver such a fruity and herbaceous taste.
The 1996 Chateau Margaux, a blend of 82% cabernet sauvignon, 12% merlot, 4% petit verdot and 2% cabernet franc produced a wine, which will go down in history for its grandeur and purity. The cabernet sauvignon has seldom achieved such a perfection of style and balance. What is even more unique perhaps, is to find in a young wine, only just after its blending, the ability to impress and move us at once through the purity of its fruit, the density of its structure and the harmony of its shape. It is a dream of a Margaux.
Tasting notes
The palate is perfectly balanced between acidity and tannins. The fruit remains exceptionally sweet and pure: blackberries and plum arrive at the first taste. The sweetness of the fruit retains the feeling of a young wine. Just a touch of spice at the finish.
